It is truly a deep vibrant cobalt blue and white. The glazed hand decorating is so thick you can feel it. Circa 1960. ICAROS ( IKAROE PODOE) Pottery manufactured in Rhodes , Greece . It was founded by a Mr. Hadjicostantis - he and his family lived in Rhodes . He and his wife died some years ago in a car accident in 1986. The founder taught the people how to make the pottery and paint and glaze it. The clay is reddish, as you can see on the bottoms of all of our pieces. He was an expert on china. His factory involved the entire china making process. They used to have ads in the New Yorker magazine. After the death of Mr. Hadjicostantis the factory was closed. The factory was originally a school (International Ceramic Arts, Rhodes -> ICAROS).
